March 2024 NorthLink news round-up
Monday 1st April 2024
Spring has finally arrived, and we had another busy month here at NorthLink Ferries! The MV Hrossey arrived back to the Northern Isles at the end of March from her scheduled dry dock period, where she underwent routine maintenance.
This month we celebrated our female workforce for International Women’s Day and our apprentices for Scottish Apprenticeship Week. We also enjoyed a visit from the Kinneff, Durris and Mearns Young Farmers to show them around the Aberdeen Ferry Terminal.
Monday 4th March:
Once a month, we like to pick, at random, one of the well-behaved dogs that travels in the MV Hamnavoe dog lounge. The good dog will receive a special NorthLink Ferries dog bandana, and a special shout out on social media!
Well done to Orrin – this gorgeous pup is this month’s Good Dog!
Monday 11th March:
We have recently enjoyed celebrating our amazing apprentices through Scottish Apprenticeship Week which took place from the 4th to 8th March 2024.
Scottish Apprenticeship Week is a nationwide celebration of apprenticeships. It’s a time when everyone can promote the benefits of work-based learning to people, employers and Scotland. Here at NorthLink Ferries, we are proud to offer a range of Modern Apprenticeships both on shore side in our terminals and out at sea on one of our vessels.
We were delighted to catch up with one of our current Apprentices, Aiden Thomson, who is a Deck Apprentice in the middle of the first sea phase. He told us a little bit about the benefits of apprenticeships and how it has improved his learning experience (see above).
Tuesday 19th March:
We recently welcomed Kinneff Young Farmers, Durris Young Farmers and Mearns Young Farmers to the Aberdeen Ferry Terminal. Here they were given a tour of the lairage, as well as the bridge, the engine room, the control rooms and passenger areas all onboard the MV Hjaltland.
We hope that everyone enjoyed their tour at NorthLink Ferries and that they gained an interesting insight into the industry!
