July 2023 NorthLink news round-up
Tuesday 1st August 2023
We have had a busy month here at NorthLink Ferries! We brought back our mystery puffin hunts, teamed up with Caber Coffee and Mental Health Aberdeen to support the ‘Spill the Beans’ initiative, celebrated one of our incredible employee’s who has raised over £50,000 for 12 charities, and held exciting competitions for our customers to enter!
To find out more about what we got up to this past month, continue reading below!
Saturday 1st July:
To kick-off the month of July, NorthLink Ferries were excited to give our customers the chance to win a Celina Rupp Jewellery silver rose-window pendant, which hangs elegantly from a silver wire!
Celina Rupp makes beautiful jewellery in Holm in the Orkney Islands. Her unique and eye-catching pieces are handcrafted and sold in shops throughout the island, online at www.celinaruppjewellery.co.uk and in other outlets throughout Scotland.
Her Rose Window design is inspired by the Rose Window found in the St Magnus Cathedral in Kirkwall. It features polished silver set into a textured silver frame, and serves as a elegant way to remember one of the most striking places in Orkney.
Good luck to everyone who entered the competition!
Sunday 2nd July:
This month, NorthLink Ferries brought back our customer-favourite puffin hunts – where a mystery location in Aberdeenshire, Orkney and Shetland will each have 12 beautiful metal puffins for our customers to find and keep.
These puffin hunts were held throughout July at Donmouth Local Nature Reserve in Aberdeen, St Ninians Isle in Shetland and Dingieshowe Beach in Orkney, and we were delighted to see so many of our customers head outdoors to try and find one!
Congratulations to everyone who found a puffin!
Wednesday 5th July:
NorthLink Ferries are delighted to team up with Caber Coffee Ltd in order to help Mental Health Aberdeen (MHA). Passengers travelling between Aberdeen and the Northern Isles can show their support for Mental Health Aberdeen (MHA) by purchasing a cup of Caber’s Spill the Beans coffee.
For every bag of Spill the Beans we buy in, £1 is donated to the charity. The vital funds raised help to provide valuable resources for young people and adults in the community, including counselling services and educational programmes.
Tuesday 18th July:
Today, NorthLink Ferries are proud to celebrate one of our remarkable team members who has raised more than £50,000 for 12 worthy charities over the past 11 years.
Kathryn Fullerton from Shetland is a Passenger Service Supervisor on board the passenger vessel MV Hjaltland. She selects a new charity each year to raise money for, enlisting the help of crew, passengers, and the local communities in her fundraising efforts.
Donations are made to charities close to her, her friends or a colleagues heart, which makes her fundraising efforts all the more special to her. Such charities include: Friends of ANCHOR, The Archie Foundation, MS Scotland, Clan Cancer Support and the Kidney Dialysis Unit of Gilbert Bain Hospital in Shetland.
All of us at NorthLink Ferries are very proud of Kathryn’s efforts and congratulate her on this outstanding achievement!
Wednesday 19th July:
Today is Changing Places Awareness Day 2023!
NorthLink Ferries are proud to be the first UK ferry operator to invest in fully equipped Changing Places toilets. We have provided Changing Places facilities onboard our passenger vessels since 2019.
These facilities are essential for people who require special assistance from families and carers, and it also permits people who require these facilities to travel further afield confidently and with dignity.
Monday 24th July:
To celebrate the opening of our dog lounge on the MV Hamnavoe, we are offering one lucky dog owner a weekend away to Orkney this autumn.
Up for grabs is a three-night trip for a couple or solo traveller with one furry friend from 6th-9th October. The lucky winner will receive:

- Round-trip travel (for up to two travellers and one dog with a car and dog lounge entry included) on our ferry crossing from Scrabster in the north of Scotland to Stromness in Orkney.
Experience our paw-some new lounge for yourself and let NorthLink Ferries take you a world away, that very same day. The competition closes at 23:59 on Friday 25th August, good luck to everyone who enters!
