Passengers travelling between Aberdeen and the Northern Isles are helping to raise awareness of mental health issues, thanks to a new collaborative venture.
Aberdeen-based Caber Coffee has worked with Serco NorthLink Ferries to bring its exclusive Spill the Beans blend on board vessels travelling between the city and Orkney and Shetland.
The unique partnership will support the work of charity Mental Health Aberdeen by raising vital funds to help provide valuable resources, including counselling services and educational programmes.
Caber Coffee’s Spill the Beans blend is a reduced caffeine product which was created to shine a light on the importance of communication when it comes to looking after mental health.
With coffee lovers encouraged to chat with others over a cup, £8 from every case sold is donated to Mental Health Aberdeen and thousands of pounds have already been raised.
By partnering with Serco NorthLink Ferries, Caber Coffee is extending the reach of its philanthropic products in a way which not only proactively supports a good cause but also highlights the power of bringing people together and the positive impact that talking with others can have.
Caber Coffee Managing Director Findlay Leask said: “There are so many benefits to be had from sitting down and talking over a cup of coffee. By raising awareness and promoting open conversations about mental health, we hope that Spill the Beans plays a part in encouraging people to talk about how they feel.
Billy Robb, Customer Service Director at Serco NorthLink Ferries, said: “We’re delighted to partner with Caber Coffee – which supplies hot drinks on board our ships to Shetland and Orkney – in support of its Spill the Beans initiative, in partnership with Mental Health Aberdeen (MHA). For every bag we buy, £1 is donated to the charity, which carries out vital work to help young people and adults in the community. It’s an honour to get behind such an important cause.”
Graeme Kinghorn, Mental Health Aberdeen (MHA) CEO added: “Spill the Beans was an inspired idea by Findlay Leask of Caber Coffee that continues to provide funding for MHA since its launch two years ago. It is a great example of local businesses supporting the local third sector and forging strong connections that ultimately help the most vulnerable in our local community. The participation of Serco NorthLink Ferries in the initiative is a huge boost for MHA and we are delighted to have them on board.”
