August 2024 NorthLink news round-up

Sunday 1st September:

It has been another busy month at NorthLink Ferries as the summer season comes to an end. In August 2024, we hosted some special events, welcomed some special guests onboard and supported one of our employees who is raising money for charity.

Saturday 3rd August:

We were delighted to host the ‘Round Bressay’ fundraising trip to raise money for the RNLI Lerwick Lifeboat. It was an excellent event which welcomed 360 passengers onboard the MV Hrossey to enjoy live music, teas and coffees, stalls, and a tombola and raffle!

Through ticket sales and other income on the day, the Round Bressay trip raised an incredible £5,465.50! Well done to everyone involved and thank you for all your generous donations. All the funds raised will help to train and equip the RNLI crew to help them save lives at sea.

Friday 9th August:

Back in July, we offered customers the opportunity to get their hands on 400 complimentary tickets to attend an exclusive concert by Orkney’s own fiddle-led folk band FARA.

Attendees were treated to a mesmerising concert set against the striking backdrop of the rose-red St Magnus Cathedral.

It was a fantastic event, and we hope everyone who came along had a great time!

Thursday 15th August:

Kathryn Fullerton, Passenger Service Supervisor onboard the MV Hjaltland, will be shaving her hair off in aid of Alzheimer Scotland on 26th October 2024.

All of us at NorthLink Ferries would like to wish Kathryn all the best with her fundraising efforts (and remind her that there are some lovely NorthLink beanie to keep her head cosy through the long winter months!)

Donations would be very much appreciated from anyone who wishes to support this incredible charity: https://www.justgiving.com/page/kathryn-fullerton

Tuesday 20th August:

We welcomed Scottish TV royalty Greg Hemphill (Victor from Still Game) and his wife Julie Wilson Nimmo (Miss Hoolie from Balamory) onboard the MV Hrossey. They have travelled North to spend a week in Orkney and then Shetland to film “Jules and Greg’s Wild Swim – The Islands Adventure”, which will be released in January 2025.

They are pictured above on the bridge of the MV Hrossey with (from L to R) : Liam Cumming 2nd Officer, Steven Macleod Chief Officer, Mason Harcus Deck Cadet, Stevie McPherson Master and Bradley Johnson Able Seaman.

It was great to meet them! We hope they had a fantastic time exploring the islands.
