Access to sanitary products sets sail with NorthLink Ferries

NorthLink Ferries is proud to be the first ferry operator in Scotland to back the provision of access to sanitary products. This decision follows recent Government announcements to make sanitary products free to people on low incomes and in education.

From this week a choice of either tampons or towels will be available from free to vend dispensers in the ladies toilets onboard all of NorthLink Ferries passenger vessels. The products will be supplied by the local social enterprise Community Food Initiative North East (CFINE), who managed the ‘Access to Sanitary Products’ pilot in Aberdeen on behalf of the Scottish Government.

Seumas Campbell, Serco’s customer service director at NorthLink Ferries, said: “Nobody wants to find themselves unprepared, or anxious about accessing sanitary protection. We hope that by introducing complimentary access to sanitary wear, all our passengers will be able to enjoy a comfortable crossing with us.”

Communities Secretary Aileen Campbell said: “I am proud that the Scottish Government has taken world-leading action to provide free access to sanitary products for those in education and on low incomes. NorthLink Ferries are to be commended for also taking such positive action and providing free products to their passengers. It’s great to see this happening in more public places.”
