Hjaltland Crew Members raise more than £10k for charity

The crew for the ferry operator that serves Aberdeen, Scrabster and the Northern Isles, has raised more than £10,000 to support people living with multiple sclerosis (MS).
Crew members on board MV Hjaltland raised £10,376 during a two year charity partnership with MS Society Scotland.
The crew organised a number of fundraising events, including a sponsored walk from Lerwick Ferry Terminal to Scalloway, a quiz, bingo event and horse racing night. Two colleagues organised a sponsored skydive, which was postponed due to bad weather but will hopefully take place later this year. Passengers were able to purchase NorthLink Ferries fundraising merchandise, including branded hoodies, on board or drop spare cash into collection buckets.
Kathryn Fullerton from NorthLink Ferries, who led the fundraising activity, said: “We are extremely proud to have raised this amazing amount for MS Society Scotland, a charity that we’ve supported for two consecutive years. We had lots of fun with all of the fundraising activities but are mainly really pleased that the money will go towards such a fantastic cause and charity.
“MS is something that many of us know too well, and we hope that these funds will help in supporting those that live with the disease and their loved ones.
“I’d like to thank everyone who was involved or donated, we couldn’t have done it without you.”
More than 15,000 people live with MS in Scotland – one of the highest rates in the world – and it can be exhausting, painful and disabling. The money raised by NorthLink Ferries will be used to support a number of MS Society activities in Scotland.
At MS Society Scotland we offer online and remote support for people affected by MS, including via our Wellbeing Hub, where people can access a range of sessions from counselling to physiotherapy support: https://www.mssociety.org.uk/wellbeing-hub.
Morna Simpkins, Director of MS Society Scotland, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to NorthLink Ferries for raising an incredible £10,376 to support people living with MS in Scotland.
“Having the support of organisations like NorthLink Ferries, as well as their passengers and their employees’ family and friends, plays a crucial part in our work to stop the condition in its tracks.
“With the support of our fundraisers we’re driving research into more – and better – treatments for everyone affected by the condition.”
